Elstree Studios has firmly established itself as the number one Film and Television Studio in London. In its 90+ year history, Elstree has been the studio of choice for many legendary producers and directors from Alfred Hitchcock, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick to Danny Boyle, Guy Ritchie, Matthew Vaughn, David Heyman and Tom Hooper.

Some of the most famous feature films have been produced at Elstree over the years which include the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies, Superman, Moby Dick, The Dam Busters, The Shining, Ice Cold in Alex, and Labyrinth. Over 800 feature films and similar numbers of television programmes have been produced at Elstree Studios.

Most recently Elstree has been the studio of choice for The Danish Girl starring Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander, Suffragette starring Meryl Streep and Helen Bonham Carter, Grimsby starring Sacha Baron Carter and Rebel Wilson, Paddington starring Hugh Bonneville and Nicole Kidman, The World’s End starring Simon Pegg, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starring Jude Law and Robert Downey Jnr, Jack the Giant Slayer starring Nicholas Hoult and Ewan McGregor, Under the Skin starring Scarlett Johansson and, of course, multi award winning The King’s Speech starring Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush.

Not only are major feature films produced at Elstree, but also some of the highest rated TV shows in the UK including high end TV Drama, Netflix-original series, The Crown, and Kudos productions: Grantchester and Humans.

Elstree is also home to BBC Studioworks. A number of Elstree’s stages have been fully equipped for HD multi-camera television production. Many productions have utilised the new facilities including, Strictly Come Dancing, The Voice, The Voice Kids, The Chase, A League of Their Own, Pointless, Room 101, Celebrity Juice and Have I Got News For You? This makes Elstree even more desirable for television production.

The Studios are also very popular for commercials and have provided stage space for Morrison’s, Gucci, Stella Artois, Littlewoods, BT Sport, River Island, NatWest and Burberry’s 2015 Christmas Commercial featuring Romeo Beckham in George Lucas Stage 1.

About Us

Elstree Studios boasts seven Film and TV stages, plus a Green Screen Stage, providing over 60,000 sqft. of stage space with stages ranging from 3,844 sqft. to 15,770 sqft. and from 25 ft. to 50 ft. in height. The George Lucas stages are two of the tallest in Europe offering excellent grid loading and power.

Internationally famous acts such as Take That, Alicia Keys, Kylie, Muse, Rihanna, One Direction, Jay Z, The Chemical Brothers, Chase & Status and many other artists find these stages ideal for their tour rehearsals enabling them to accommodate a full size stadium stage and lighting grid and rehearse within a secure location.

Elstree also offers extensive production offices, workshops, dressing rooms, a 28 seat preview theatre, wardrobe and make up rooms, rehearsal rooms and post productions facilities. With 24 hour, seven day a week manned security, together with a comprehensive CCTV camera network, the Studios are specifically designed to give you total peace of mind during your stay.

Located in Borehamwood, the Studios are uniquely located for productions who wish to use central London and outer London locations. Elstree Studios, in association with Creative England, have compiled over 100 varying locations from Victorian prisons and stately homes to nuclear shelters and rural settings. This has been a great bonus for both feature film and drama producers.

The Studios are very convenient for central London; just 20 minutes by rail from St Pancras, a ten minute walk from the Elstree & Borehamwood train station plus excellent connections via underground and bus service. The Studios are superbly located close to the motorway network (M25, M1 and A1), serviced by two airports (Luton and Heathrow) and only ten minutes from the Elstree Aerodrome. There is also excellent access to local amenities for building materials, shops, restaurants and hotels. Elstree Studios has access to over 900 car parking spaces, special entrances and holding areas for audiences, space for film trailers and heavy good vehicles plus on site catering.
