Elstree Studios has firmly established itself as the number one Film and Television Studio in London. Most recently Elstree has been the studio of choice for The World’s End starring Simon Pegg, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starring Jude Law and Robert Downey Jnr, Brian Singer’s Jack the Giant Slayer, Under the Skin starring Scarlett Johansson and, of course, multi award winning The King’s Speech starring Colin Firth. Paddington Bear was released in November and was named the highest grossing British independent film of 2014. Grimsby and Suffragettes are soon to be released.
Not only are major feature films produced at Elstree, but has always been home to some of the highest rated TV shows in the UK such as Big Brother for Channel 5, Dancing on Ice, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and Red or Black for ITV, The Voice for BBC, My Mad Fat Diary for E4, television specials such as ITV’s Michael Buble; Home for Christmas and children’s shows such as The Slammer for BBC and Bunnytown for Disney.
Elstree is also home to BBC Studios and Post Production's London studios business, whilst Television Centre is being redeveloped. The BBC's commercial facilities arm has upgraded a number of Elstree stages, so they are now fully equipped for HD multi-camera television production. Productions that have utilised the new facilities include the popular daily quiz show Pointless, BBC Three's Live from the Electric and CBBC's Friday Download. BBC Studios and Post Production has also built brand new HD gallery facilities for the George Lucas stage, which now hosts the BBC's flagship entertainment show Strictly Come Dancing. This exciting project makes Elstree even more desirable for television production. Other recent TV shows include Celebrity Juice, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The Chase, Room 101, Sweat The Small Stuff, Yonderland and many more.
The Studios are also very popular for commercials having recently provided stage space for Morrison’s, Gucci, Stella Artois, Littlewoods, BT, River Island and NatWest to name but a few. Most recently Burberry shot their Christmas Commercial featuring Romeo Beckham in George Lucas Stage 1.
Elstree Studios boasts seven film and TV stages, plus a green screen stage, providing over 60,000sq ft. of stage space with stages ranging from 3,844sq ft. to 15,770sq ft. and from 25ft. to 50ft. in height. The George Lucas stages are two of the tallest in Europe offering excellent grid loading and power.
