Elstree Studios, world famous as the home of cinematic icons such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones, welcomed His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to the facility in Borehamwood, Herts.

The tour concluded with The Duke meeting staff and learning more about of the history of the studios. His Royal Highness spoke about the important contribution the creative industries make in the UK before unveiling a plaque marking his visit and Elstree’s centenary.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit is the first of a number of events planned to mark Elstree Studio’s 100th anniversary. These include: a cutting-edge immersive experience; a gala evening celebrating past productions; a world-record attempt; a number of legacy projects and a celebration of Jewish filmmakers.

Rebecca Hawkes, Head of Studios at Elstree, said: “Given The Duke of Edinburgh’s long-standing championing of the British creative industries I can’t think of a more appropriate event to begin our centenary celebrations. With our immersive experience, heritage trail, and iconic installations, we’re inviting the world to celebrate with us.”
