The force is strong for BBC Studios and Post Production as bookings roll in for Elstree Studios and BBC Elstree.
BBC Studios and Post Production today announced a number of productions that will be recorded at Elstree Studios and its studio facilities at BBC Elstree from March when the company relocates to the Elstree sites following the closure and redevelopment of Television Centre.
This year, BBC Studios and Post Production will make series 11 of Strictly Come Dancing at Elstree Studios, recording the show on the famed 15,770 sq ft George Lucas stage. The popular daily quiz-show Pointless will be recorded on Stage 8, a 7500 sq ft studio at Elstree Studios. Additionally, the seventh series of Sky1 HD’s hit A League of Their Own will occupy Studio D at BBC Elstree (Clarendon Road) in March.
Upgrades to the buildings and technical infrastructure are currently taking place at Elstree Studios and BBC Elstree. The most extensive of these is the complete refurbishment of the gallery at BBC Elstree Studio D, which will be completed this Spring. Facilities for talent and audience members are also being improved at both sites.
An editing and finishing facility, which is used by resident production EastEnders, is already a permanent feature at BBC Elstree, however both sites will be linked to BBC S&PP’s new standalone post-production facility on Charlotte Street, W1, so it can directly serve live studio productions that require fast turnaround inserts. One of the final shows to be recorded at Television Centre in February is the new BBC Entertainment series, Beat the Pack. This will be among the first to take advantage of the new post production services at Charlotte Street.
Anna Mallett, CEO of BBC Studios and Post Production said: “We’re excited about the opportunities relocating to Elstree Studios presents, and are looking forward to providing the same high quality service that our customers have come to expect.”
