Film prosthetics studio based in Elstree Studios to open doors to the public

22nd November 2011

A prosthetics film studio is set to open its doors so people can learn how to cast their own cinematic moulds.

Lifecast, based at Elstree Studios, is run by John Schoonraad who has worked in the film industry for more than 30 years.

He plans to offer courses in film prosthetics and will also show people how to cast their hands and feet.

The courses will teach the skill of life casting which is the cornerstone of special effects work in film and TV.

Mr Schoonraad said: “It’s a great chance for people to see how we work and get hands on with the work we do for films.

“It’s nice for people to get the experience of how to mould and learn how to do it themselves at home.”

“I love seeing people’s faces and they’re star stuck almost when they come here and look at the stuff we’ve done and the films we’ve worked on.”

Mr Schoonraad has worked on a large number of films at the studios including, Saving Private Ryan, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and more recently X-MEN and The King's Speech.
